Customer Point-Of-Sale case Study Improved monitoring of
sales and inventory, faster and more efficient customer payment procedures
and a variety of enhanced reporting options has helped Surreal, the busy bar
/ restaurant in central Queenstown, maintain its position of one of
Wakatipu’s premiere operations. “Our old system had definitely out-lived its
‘use by’ date,” says Melissa Stadler, the very busy owner / manager of
Surreal. “It had a tendency to crash during peak times and the reporting was
just not on. We knew we needed to upgrade.” One of the reasons Surreal
has been successful in the uber-competitive Queenstown market is that Melissa
is a savvy operator. “I did my homework,” she explains. “We conducted a
thorough review of the various POS systems on the market and looked closely
at the pros and cons for each of the competing models. To be honest, no one
system was a 100% one-to-one match with our requirements, but the Quest POS
system came the closest. But what really clinched our decision to purchase
the Quest POS solution was that their value-added reseller in town was Digital
7.” “We already had a
relationship with Digital 7 as we had bought a surveillance system from them
earlier,” continues Melissa, “and had been impressed with their technical
expertise and professionalism. Angelica helped us select the right set of
components and managed the installation process. There was a certain amount
of work involved – for instance we had to enter in all of the initial
inventory stock lists before we could get going – but the team at Digital 7
is very easy to work with and responsive to our requests.” Surreal has been using the
Quest system for eight months and is very pleased with the results. “I can
look at a graph and see exactly which products have sold in half-hour
increments,” says Melissa. “This enables me to better manage my inventory and
control costs. Plus the system is robust. It hasn’t crashed, even during our
busiest times. All the managers use the reporting functions and the
touch-screen operation facilitates training new staff.” “Before I had an idea of
which products were the most profitable,” concludes Melissa. “But now, with
Quest, I have the fact and figures. And if ever I have a question or want to
tweak the system, Digital 7 is just a block away. Their support has been
fantastic. In fact, it has worked out so well for us that we’ll be adding
more features in the very near future. The Quest POS system has been a
definite winner for us.” |

Before installing the Quest POS system at Surreal, owner / manager Melissa Stadler had to contend with system crashes, arcane reporting and outdated equipment. But now, with QUEST, she has all the facts and figures at her fingertips.
